Cleaning Floors in Tough Areas

How to Clean Floors in Tough Areas – Tips to Make it Easier

Behind the toilet, under appliances, and high-traffic areas by doors and entrances – all these floor areas can prove tough to clean because they are difficult to access or get very dirty due to their location. Here are the cleaning tools we recommend to do the job.

Caution: Before using an eraser sponge to clean your floor, test it on an inconspicuous area to see if it damages or alters the finish. Make sure the area is completely dry before deciding to apply it to the entire floor area.  Eraser sponges are not recommended for the following floor types:  natural stone, painted surfaces, or finished wood surfaces.

How to Clean Floors in Tough Areas- the Bathroom

Cleaning behind or around a toilet can be tough without contorting yourself. The Eraser Sponge Extension Handle Kit can help you reach behind and around bathroom toilets in order to clean the ceramic or vinyl floor. The extendable handle allows you to reach up high or down low without needing a step stool or resorting to stooping or bending. Use it to clean hard-to-reach areas of your floor, like behind a bathroom toilet, or along tiled baseboards.

The handle extends up to three feet, making it easier to clean small sections of the floor without bending. The sponges attach via Velcro to the head of the handle, making it easy to attach and detach for cleaning.

The extension kit comes with four high-quality Basotect melamine foam eraser sponges, in addition to the extendable handle and Velcro head. Replacement sponges for the kit are available.

To use: simply wet the eraser sponge with water and wring dry with your hands. Attach the eraser sponge via Velcro to the handle’s head. Move the sponge back and forth along the floor to gently scrub away dirt and grime from tiles or vinyl. It can also be safely used on parts of the toilet as well. When finished, remove the eraser sponge and rinse it under running water to remove dirt in order to clean the sponge. Allow to air dry and use again and again until the sponge is gone.

How to Clean Floors from Under Appliances

A Flexible Microfiber Dusting Wand, is thin enough to fit under appliances in order to pick up dust, dirt and pet hair. Keeping the area around your appliances not only looks nice, but it might help the appliance perform better too. Refrigerators have condenser coils and some models need to have these cleaned in order to cool efficiently. For homes with several pets, Whirlpool recommends cleaning the coils every 2-3 months.

After cleaning the floor with your duster, be sure to clean it for its next use. To clean the duster, run the wand under water to remove dirt, dust and pet hair and hang it up to allow it to air dry.

How to Clean High-Traffic Areas

Vinyl and laminate tile floor areas by doors and entrances tend to get dirtier due to the amount of foot traffic they see. A melamine eraser floor cleaning pad is safe to use on vinyl and laminate floors and works great to clean high traffic floor areas with deeply embedded grime. They also work to remove stains, spills, footprint and dark scuff marks from shoes and sneakers.

The melamine eraser floor mop replacement pads attaches via Velcro to a mop head handle (sold separately). Simply spray the sponge with water in order to wet it and scrub the grimy floor area.

The floor mop pads are ideal for cleaning larger floor areas versus the eraser sponge extension handle kit, due to the size of the mop pad which measures 10 inches by 4.5 inches. For cleaning businesses that need bulk amounts, the  Eraser Mop Floors Cleaning Pads is available in a 60 Pack.
